LIVEArt 2 Opening - 10th November 2009
The College is truly fortunate that amongst our staff and students we have people that are full of creativity and enthusiasm! As one artist commented on the night of the exhibition opening, we use the arts “to express abstract vision and emotions which do not necessarily have to have a purpose other than enhancing our environment or provoking creative thought”. We in LIVE are very pleased to provide a platform for talented artists such as Daryl Rhys Jones, Elizabeth Ely, Neil Stoker, and Stephanie Reed, and on 10th November 2009 we celebrated the opening of LIVEArt 2, our exhibition series which seeks out artistic talent amongst staff and students at the RVC. The four artists had a terrific opening to their show and their artwork will be on display in the LIVE Centre at Hawkshead until Christmas 2009.
It is our hope that events like the LIVEArt series will encourage others to bring their own creative talents out of the closet. The evening clearly showed that staff and students here at the RVC do have an interest in the creative arts, and with plans now existing to start an artist in residence programme, the College takes innovation in learning and teaching to a new level, especially since a programme like this represents a complete novum for any UK veterinary school.
Please come along and take a look at the artwork now on display, leaflets with details on the artists and their work are available in the LIVE Centre. For any queries or comments, please contact Birgit Pirkelbauer, the LIVE Centre Manager (bpirkelbauer@rvc.ac.uk).
Details on LIVEArt 3 will be published soon on the College’s intranet and on the LIVE website!
