Contemporary Study Skills

The  Graduate Diploma in Professional and Clinical Veterinary Nursing has been offered by the Royal Veterinary College since 2008.  Being aware of issues with online and distance modes of study and those of ‘non-traditional’ learners, the first module of the course, Contemporary Study Skills, was created to support learners in developing their higher education, technology and e-social skills.

Throughout the module, activities are included to help students develop skills in academic writing and evidence-based practice, and cultivate strategies for managing their lifelong learning skills such as; problem-solving; critical reflection; information literacy and time management. The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) and activities within also provide a platform for communication, discussion and team building.  The aim is that students will establish a solid foundation that will be useful for all subsequent modules in the course, through the development of a series of skills which are transferrable to other aspects of the students’ professional, educational and personal life.

The second delivery of the course is now complete with minor changes influenced from the initial module review.

This project is a collaboration between Academic Development, The School of Veterinary Nursing and LIVE.
