Jim Bee Educator Awards
The objective of the Jim Bee Educator Prize Scheme is to encourage and reward excellence in teaching at the RVC. Six individual Prizes are awarded each year at Graduation. Each prize carries a personal cash award of £1,000.
Awards are made against the following criteria:
- excellence in the delivery of the curriculum; and/or
- excellence in the development of the curriculum and/or teaching, learning and assessment methods; and/or
- excellence in pastoral care
All RVC staff engaged in teaching are eligible for an Educator Prize: the only proviso is that no individual may receive a Prize two years in succession.
To qualify for a Jim Bee Educator Prize you must be nominated by a colleague or student using the Jim Bee Nomination Form . The completed form should then be submitted, with supporting documentation, to Sandra Ward.
The deadline for submission of nominations is usually at the end of May each year.
Nominations are adjudicated by a panel comprising:
- the Principal;
- the Vice-Principal (Teaching);
- the Chair of the Teaching Quality Sub-committee; #
- a representative of the previous year's prizewinners;
- a representative of the LIVE Centre;
- the President of the SUS.
When nominations have been received, the panel judges them in the context of:
- student evaluation data;
- comments from the staff member’s Head of Department
Prizes are normally awarded at the Graduation Ceremony. Prize-winners unable to attend Graduation receive their prizes at the Opening Ceremony.
