Tierney completed a BSc (Hons) in Animal Behaviour at Anglia Ruskin University and then went on to obtain an MSc in the same subject at the University of Exeter. Her masters project looked at the effects of an olfactory enrichment device on the behaviour and welfare of fishing cats in captivity.
Tierney then worked briefly as a receptionist at a charity veterinary clinic before joining LIVE in March 2008. She now works within the Haptics Group as a research assistant, helping to develop haptic simulations for use within veterinary education.
