Jane Tomlin graduated from the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in 1992 and spent a year in mixed practice in Essex before undertaking a 2 year internship at Glasgow University where she obtained her Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. After a few years travelling and locum work Jane returned to the RVC to complete a 3 year European College of Veterinary Surgeons (ECVS) Residency Programme in Small Animal Surgery obtaining her EVCS Diploma in 2002. Jane then worked in the clinics at the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals (QMHA) as an orthopaedic surgeon before successfully obtaining a LIVE Fellowship. The main aspect of her work as a LIVE Fellow to date has been to implement the assessment of clinical reasoning skills using Extended Matching Questions (EMQ's) for the Final Year Examinations. Jane is also interested in professionalism, student selection and the motivations for choosing a career as a veterinary surgeon and this forms the basis of the Masters degree she is currently undertaking in conjunction with Society of Practicing Veterinary Surgeons (SPVS) and Middlesex University.
