Latest Veterinary Education workshop from the LIVE Centre

Sixteen colleagues from across the RVC and around the UK gathered at the Hawkshead Campus this month for the seventh workshop in the series leading to our Postgraduate Certificate in Veterinary Education.

The focus this month was on "Developing Skills", led by Senior Lecturer Liz Chan. The first part of the workshop looked at how we teach practical and technical skills; and the challenges faced by both bioscience and clinical teaching staff when teaching practical skills to students. The second part looked at how we teach reasoning skills - both clinical and scientific - and how we as both educators and clinicians can support this both in the classroom and the clinic. In the afternoon, Kim Whittlestone and Ruth Serlin facilitated a session on developing communication skills in our students.

Everyone went away with some new strategies to apply to their own teaching, and we're looking forward to hearing how they get on.

If any of these challenges resonate with you, why not join us? Whether you come to our monthly workshops or join our community of distance learners from around the world, we'd love you to join the debate. The next intake for the PGCert will be in September 2017, and details are available here: https://lnkd.in/dwzqUrB
